Fundraising and Teaching

This year 2 local boys, Ali (11) and Mahdi (6), have been collecting funds for the Foodbank while also raising awareness of the Foodbank and the work we do.

Each year, Ali & Mahdi, raise money over Christmas for a worthy cause and this year was for the Foodbank. By creating a poster promoting what a foodbank does and why they are needed, they went around teaching people the importance of foodbanks to those in need. By giving a small talk to their community members and fundraising at Wisbech Surgery, where their father works as a Dr, they have managed to raise £630 for Bourne Foodbank. This started with a 'Charity begins at home' approach, with both the boys donating from their own pocket money and then the bank of Mom & Dad followed by friend and family.

Previously, they have raised money for sick children in hospital, the homeless in Wisbech and also for their local Mosque in Peterborough. We would like to thank Ali & Mahdi for their efforts and hope they go on helping out in the community in future years with the support of their family, friends and staff at Wisbech Surgery.

The Foodbank would like to thank the Swayfield Community for their recent food donations.

A recent collection organised by Swayfield Community Village Hall resulted in over 175Kg of food being donated within just a few hours.

Thank you!

Santa Came to Town

On behalf of Bourne Foodbank and Bourne Lions, I would like to publicly thank Danny Cooke, who bravely did a lone Santa walk around the streets of Bourne leading up to Christmas, Danny not only uplifted the spirit of our community by bringing that Christmas joy to us all, but he also raised funds to support local charities such as the: Foodbank, Don’t Lose Hope, Little Miracles, Sue Ryder home and Bourne Lions.

As Chairman of Trustees for Bourne Foodbank and Community support officer for Bourne Lions, I cannot thank Danny enough for his time, effort and commitment which he put in to accomplish this task. From my own experience, it is by no means an easy task, coming home to a warm house from a day’s work to go back out in the cold again.

Danny experienced some very bitter cold, rainy days and covered between 70 to 100 miles during his venture, but I’m equally sure, Danny felt a sense of satisfaction witnessing the joys and smiles which he brought to us all. We are hoping to recruit Danny into the Bourne Lions pride! So watch out, hopefully Danny will be on our sleigh this year.

A Cracker of a Fundraiser

I was initially forwarded a message received via face book, from Tuesday-Maria Osborne and Lucie Lamb, requesting approval to run a “Christmas Raffle” to support the Bourne Foodbank.

My immediate response was; “Thank you very much and yes you can”

On Friday 04 Dec 20, Tuesday-Maria Osborne presented Bourne Foodbank with a cheque to the value of £2368.10. Which shocked us all.

Speaking to Tuesday-Maria, who stated: “Lucie and I decided to do something to support our community and came up with this idea. We thought we would not raise more than £200 - £300 max, but were surprised when we reached £800 in the first month, we both really enjoyed this experience”

They started their campaign at the end of August, with plans to hand over the funds raised at the start of December in time for Christmas.

I understand, they contacted various local businesses and made appeals via Facebook. They were astonished with the response and kindness received from all. They coordinated the raffle with donated prizes and others purchased from Amazon.

Both Tuesday-Maria and Lucie are full time workers, Tuesday-Maria works for “British Car Auction (BCA)” and Lucie runs her own Beauty Bee saloon in Bourne and at the time of initiating this project was about 6 months pregnant!

I consider this a remarkable achievement by both these amazing ladies who, unselfishly thought of others less fortunate in our community, gave up their own personal and family time, along with all the COVID restrictions, to achieve this amazing result.

On behalf of all members from Bourne Foodbank, I thank them both for all the hard work they have put in and to the many who supported them, either by donating or purchasing a raffle ticket which has generated this awesome amount of money.

Harvest Time

Harvest time is among us, and we would like to say a huge Thank You for all of the donations received from the local schools.

Christmas is always a busy time at the foodbank and this year will certainly be no exception. Your donations will really help out a family in need.

Please remember that if you still have anything you would like to give, you can drop your food of at Tesco, Sainsburys, Morton Co-op and most of the churches around Bourne and surrounding villages.

Donation from the Freemasons

Bourne Foodbank was ever so pleased, to be one of the lucky recipients selected for a donation from the Freemasons Lodge of Aveland.

The good news was given by lodge secretary W Bro Barry Harriman who initiated the process in May this year.

Barry stated “The lodge is very keen to support local charities and organisations, we are part of the Lincolnshire Province of Freemasons and the money donated is part of a total of over £34,000 given this year to local charities and organisations throughout the County” for further information please visit: http://www.lincolnshirefreemasons.org

On Tuesday 13 October, a cheque of £500 was presented to Bourne Foodbank by the lodge Charity steward, W Bro Brent Pottle (pictured right).

On behalf of Bourne Foodbank, I thank Barry and all members from the Lodge of Aveland, for their kindness in considering and nominating Bourne Foodbank for this donation, which we are extremely grateful.
